Helping neighbors impacted by the covid-19 Crisis

 Dear Neighbors,
As our community faces major changes with the COVID-19 virus, I hope this letter finds you and your family safe and well.

The COVID-19 virus has not only put people’s health at risk but also changed the way our community operates. Businesses are closed or only open for limited hours. Group events have been canceled and community members are being asked to stay at home with their families whenever possible. Along with these changes, come economic hardships for many of our neighbors who do not have access to childcare, health insurance or who may have been laid off due to the current crisis.

During this time of uncertainty, the United Way of Grand Forks, East Grand Forks & Area as implemented the following steps to address the urgent needs of the Greater Grand Forks community:
The COVID-19 crisis has caused us to make difficult decisions regarding the funding of our current programs. Unfortunately, this means the United Way Board of Directors is redirecting funds from the Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library to support our neighbors that are being impacted by the COVID-19 virus through the One Fund and our Live, Work & Learn initiatives.

UnitedWay has enjoyed hosting the Imagination Library for the past eight years. We know this program helped share the joy of reading with countless children across the Greater Grand Forks community. April 2020 will be the last month that children in our community receive their Imagination Library Books. United Way is working to find another local organization to fund and host the program in the future. We will continue to support child literacy and help prepare children to succeed through our Live, Work & Learn programs.

This was a thoughtful decision, and one we know is in the best interest of helping our community during this time of crisis. If you would like to make a donation to the One Fund please click below.
